How Do I Delete A Book From My Kindle App

How do you delete books from Kindle? If you really never want to see that book again, you can permanently delete it from your Kindle Library. There are a lot of different ways to remove Kindle books from your Kindle app or device and a few different places from which you might want to remove or delete them. We'll cover them all below.

How to Delete Books from Your Kindle (Device)

Regardless of what model of Kindle you have, deleting books is very similar. However, if you want to permanently delete books from your Amazon Kindle Library, skip to deleting books from Kindle Cloud. The method detailed below will remove the book from your Kindle device while allowing you to keep the book you purchased in your Kindle Cloud and as a part of your Amazon Kindle account.

How to Delete Books from a Kindle or Kindle Keyboard:

This model has the five-way directional controller. We'll use that button in the next steps to delete the book.
Find the book you want to delete.
Select the book's name from the Home screen or your Kindle Library, then press the Left toggle on the 5-way controller.
Choose Remove from Device. Press the center of the 5-way controller.

How to Delete Books from a Kindle Touch, Voyage, Fire, or Paperwhite:

Go to your Kindle Library, and find the Kindle book you want to delete.
Press and hold the book's cover.
Tap Remove Download.

If your Kindle device isn't listed above, follow the steps for how to delete books from a Kindle Touch, Voyage, etc. If you have a Kindle that's all touch screen, the method will be about the same when removing books from your Kindle device, regardless of which model you have. Remember that books you remove from your Kindle device are still available in the Kindle Cloud, which means if you want to download them later and read them again (or loan your book to a friend), you can without buying the book again.

How to Remove Books from the Kindle App on iPhone & iPad

If the Kindle app is your preferred e-reading app, deleting a book is simple.

Open the Kindle app on your iPad or iPhone.
Navigate to your Library on the bottom of the screen.
Tap Downloaded to see only books and samples you have downloaded to your iPhone or iPad. These are the books you're able to read even when you're offline (no Wi-Fi or cellular connection).
Tap the icon of up and down arrows in the top right-hand corner of your screen.
Select Grid view.
Tap and hold the icon of the book you'd like to remove.
TapRemove Download.

Now the book will be removed from your Kindle app but still available, should you need it, in your Kindle Cloud. In a later section, we'll go over deleting books from your Amazon Kindle Cloud, but if you want to permanently and directly delete books from your Kindle app, keep reading.

Permanently Delete Books from the Kindle App

To permanently delete books from your Kindle app, follow steps 1–6 in the previous section. Once you have selected the book you'd like to permanently delete:

TapPermanently Delete to delete the book from your Kindle app and Kindle Cloud.
TapDelete to confirm deletion.

It's good to be aware that if you delete a book from the Kindle Cloud, it's gone. That means you will have to buy it again if you decide to go back and read that book. However, books removed or archived from your device remain in the Kindle Cloud in case you ever want to read them again. Archiving your books allows your iPhone or iPad to create more space while not permanently deleting the books you've previously purchased.

How to Permanently Delete Books from Kindle Cloud

You have unlimited storage for Kindle books in the Amazon Cloud. You can store as many wonderful novels in the Kindle Cloud and never run out of space for keeping them. However, there are other reasons you might want to permanently delete books from your account. It's important to reiterate that books removed from the cloud are gone permanently. You will need to purchase them again should you change your mind. In order to permanently delete a book, you'll have to log in to your Amazon account in a web browser. To permanently delete books from the Kindle Cloud and your Amazon Kindle Library:

On your computer, open Amazon.com in a web browser and log in to your account.
Hover your mouse overAccount & Lists at the top. This will show a drop down menu.
From that menu, select Content & Devices.
Click thethree dotsnext to the title you'd like to remove in your list of content.
ClickDelete.
ClickYes, delete permanently.
